Room 141 – Alpharetta, GA - Odyssey Escape Games – Nuketown Diner
Rose carrying Lumina, Game Master Zayan, and Jackson – Success – 5/15/2022
One of my favorite places, Odyssey, opened a new room in place of its Prison Break.
The plot is that we are tourists visiting Area 51 where the government has created a tourist attraction of an old-timey diner of the 50s. Unfortunately, sirens go off and we have to get to the Bomb Shelter before a nuke goes off in an hour.
This had good puzzles that contributed to the storyline, none all that difficult, but because we still aren’t good at this, we needed help. Zayan was a great game master giving us good hints.
There were a couple of puzzles that seemed out of place, for example, the receipts should have provided the code to the safe but didn’t. Instead, the receipt provided a code for something else that really didn’t quite make sense.
Finding Lumina, the baby alien (or small alien since babies usually don’t travel unless she was conceived on Earth), was to us the highlight and we all enjoyed it.
Overall a good room. It’s not the best at Odyssey but on the other hand, it’s been 3 years since we did the other rooms (all done on the same day prior to this blog being started.)
Room 142 – Urban Escape Marietta – The Pharaoh’s Curse
With Game Master Silas and my mummy – Success 8/1/2022
This room had a lot of puzzles and a lot of hieroglyphics. We succeeded with a lot of help from our excellent Game Master, Silas.
The room had an unfinished feel to it since our job was to discover some other explorers, and all we found was some belongings with no explanation of what had happened to them.
I would have loved to see closure to the issue though it would not have contributed much to the game, just a nice ending to a good story.
Room 143 – Escape the Netherworld – Alien Terror
With Tyler and Mark the GM – Success 11/25/2023
Netherworld is where we cut our teeth on Escape Rooms in 2018 and it got us hooked since we love horror as well as solving the puzzles in an escape room. It is the 5th room at Escape The Netherworld which just opened (we had done the others multiple times because they are so good.) This experience did not disappoint and we got Mark, who is such an excellent Game Master as well as an overall nice guy. Unlike some other places, he wants players to succeed and get through the whole experience because it makes rooms more enjoyable. He gave us excellent clues when we asked for them as well as provided hints (and nudges) when we needed them (and we DID NEED THEM!) This room has a great storyline, excellent (and working) tech, puzzles that further the story, and a wonderful sense of horror and suspense, but given all that, the Game Master is the key essential part of having a great Escape Room experience.
So a few comments that I did not share on social media and reviews.
This room is definitely scary with all lights out, jump noises (like whip cracking), and the sound of a monster all around you, so know this before you go there. It is not for the easily spooked. The darkness happens after getting through the first room and lasted a couple of minutes. It was getting boring to me, so I figured perhaps it was necessary to walk forwards (carefully) in the darkness, so I did (I would be the first victim in a horror movie). Apparently, this was not necessary because the lights would have come on (flickering of course) anyway.
There were video cut scenes that included no vital information but just ate away at time.
We asked for a lot of clues (technically, you get only 3, but we call them nudges and hints to get around that semantic restriction.)
We did finish with 8 minutes to spare but at no time did we think we had enough time. We were very well aware of time wasting away and tried to have each person do one task until combined brain or physical power was necessary.
This is the first room I ever did with Tyler (my fairly newly minted son-in-law) and he was an excellent problem solver. Plus he had longer arms and didn't mind getting down on the floor (I don't either but getting up is another matter.) Also, even though he doesn't love horror and gore like Rose and me, he was a brave soul and chinned up. Cool SIL, eh?
I would recommend any room at Netherworld, but be aware that everything is horror based - it is a Haunted House venue after all!
Room 144 – Get a Clue – Space Wars
With Tyler and Lex - forgot the GM's name – Success 1/7/24
This was a new venue for us. We had been searching for a new place and found Get A Clue in Canton, Georgia. We picked the room Space Wars.
This was an entertaining room, but because I thought I might need my glasses after I was bound (by magnets) to a wall, the GM came in and released me. By doing so, it disabled some of the tech. I really didn't need my glasses, just thought I had to read something on the other wall.
