Urban Escape - Jewel Heist - GM Janar - Success
With Game Master Janar - Success - 10/30/2022
There is an Escape Room Enthusiasts group on Facebook which I joined. Since I was planning to travel do Dallas, I put out a plea for players in Dallas to join me for escape rooms. Someone suggested I try them solo.
I figured I'd do a local one first and picked Urban Escape Alpharetta, where Rose and I had done all the rooms (or so I thought.) Turns out we had missed the Jewel Heist room.
I reached out to the owner, Michael Zambrowicz, and he remember talking to me and also that I had added their newest location to Google Maps. I recently just got an update (in pic below - no pics of me after room.) Michael comped me the room and I had Janar as Game Master - he remembered me from when we did Lunar Station 7 (room 137 with Rose and me.)
I got through this room ok - the end was tough because there are pictures that are hard to see because of the fluorescent lighting. I let them know and made some suggestions to try to improve it.
Euless, Texas - Escape Experience - Royal Heist - Library of Secrets
Kinda successful - 12/13/2023
For my first night in Dallas, I picked 2 rooms at Escape Experience in Euless, a few miles west of Dallas.
Royal Heist which I completed and Library of Secrets, which though I didn't complete in time, I was allowed to continue for about 3 more minutes to finish it off. I didn't consider either room a success.
Dallas, Texas - Perfect Escape - Mr Wong's and O'Bannion's Safe
Failed Both- 12/14/2023
I learned a valuable lesson this day. Though Rose and I can polish off 3 to 5 rooms with seemingly no fatigue, doing 2 rooms in one day solo is way too much.
The first room was O'Bannion's Safe, quite a good room, and I almost had it, except the dynamite blew up before I could defuse it. I guess I bombed.
The second room was so hard, I only got through 2 of the 5 rooms, though I did enter the third room. It was Wong's Chinese and this was a really, really excellent room, but would have needed more than one person, perhaps even 4. The game master showed me everything I had missed, which was lots!
Miami, Florida - Great Escape Room Miami - Sherlock's Study (The Library)
Failed - 1/19/2023
In Miami, I decided to do just one room a night. The first was at The Great Escape Room Miami and the room was called Sherlock's Study (The Library.) This was a unique room in that the Game Master sat in the room the whole time. It really was more of a scavenger hunt through the room and I failed it miserably, because there was just too much to search, even with the Game Master's help. This room needs at least 3 people - 2 to search and one to put the puzzle together that is built from the scavenged items. (Not my photo - didn't take any.)
I would not recommend this room because it is more tedious than an Escape Room.
Miami, Florida - PanIQ Room Miami - The Haunted Hospital
With Game Master Waylon - Failed - 1/20/2023
For my second room in Miami, I booked a public room and was excited when I arrived to find out that four others had booked the room. Unfortunately, right at game start time, they called and said they couldn't make it due to a car accident, so it was another solo room.
Waylon was the Game Master and he was great, but there was just too much to do and I failed. He told me I had done about 80% of the room.
After this, I resolved not to do any more solo rooms if I could help it. Doing rooms with others is way more fun - there is a feeling of camaraderie and team and it's more enjoyable uncovering fun and weird stuff when with others.
