Room 131 – Cold Spring, KY – Sherlock’s Escape Rooms – Sherlock Holmes’ Unsolved Mystery – with Game Master Jovanni – Success – 7/22/2020

My least favorite room because this left a bad taste in my mouth in a few different ways. First of all, to get a clue, it was “Elementary my Dear Watson” and every Sherker (like Trekker) knows that Holmes NEVER said that.

Next it mixed Victorian Sherlock and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock together introducing Euros (only added for the TV show) which so goes against my grain – are we in the past or in the present?  It should have been British Pounds or quid or shillings or pence.

Finally, the plot is that Sherlock absconds money and goes to live in Lisbon with his sister. Excuse me, but that is the modern times and this is part of the European Union. Apart from the fact that Sherlock cared NOTHING about money.

I did like following the clues and our GM was awesome. I got really hung up with a stupid book that pulled out from the bookshelf, but oh well.

Room 132 – Cold Spring, KY – Sherlock’s Escape Rooms – Motel Room 13

With Game Master Jovanni – Success – 7/22/2020

Like Psycho’s Motel setting just no birds.

This was Rose’s favorite room – perhaps it was because I had to sit on the toilet which had a huge rat floating in it. There was some awesome tech like sit on the toilet to open the sink drawer. Stuff falling on my head like the shower curtain. A safe with a lock out timer where we did nothing for 2 minutes.

We finished this with FOUR seconds to spare and that with 6 EXTRA clues used – since each extra clue racks up 5 minutes, it took us 1:29:56 to complete.

One thing I don’t like much is multiple locks per item. That doesn’t always make sense.

Room 133 – Cold Spring, KY – Sherlock’s Escape Rooms – The Lost Kingdom

With Game Master Jovanni – Success – 7/22/2020

My favorite escape room in this location – I don’t know why. Perhaps because Jovanni laughed along with us every time we had to get a clue with the phrase “We are not worthy” and he’d say, “soon you will be!” Such a positive person!

We had to hunt around for 3 dragon skulls, 3 rings, and a bunch of gold. I managed to hit my head on a box in the wall while straightening up and Jovanni said, well there is a good side to that – it was where we had to use a magnet which we wouldn’t have really seen until later. I guess I was just using my head. Also, no pain, no gain. It still hurts today (the 23rd) and is starting to turn color.

After this, we were bushed and even though originally we had planned to do the kids’ room when passing back through Florence, an already 1 AM home arrival would have been now 3 AM so we skipped it.

The trip to Kentucky was a great adventure over two days!

Room 134 – Peachtree City, GA – Mastermind Games – Just in Time

with Game Master Braden – Success – 12/12/20

Rose worked at Mastermind Games at this time so we went to their Peachtree City Location to do some rooms.

Just in Time has you solve puzzles to time travel from the Old West to the future to return a future artifact to where it belongs. Some really good puzzles here.

Room 135 – Peachtree City, GA – Mastermind Games – Race the Storm

With Game Master Braden – Success – 12/12/20

Race the Storm is great for folks wanting to find out more about Georgia.

The plot is that a twister is about to hit the museum and it’s up to you to save Georgia relics and put them in the safe before making your way to the storm shelter.

There are a LOT of things to do in this room and a team larger than 2 is recommended.

Room 136 – Peachtree City, GA – Mastermind Games – Zombie Survival Run

With Game Master Jacob – Success – 12/12/20

The Zombie Survival Run starts with a shopping trip to “Z-Mart” to pick up some essentials but zombies have surrounded the store and you have an hour before they break down the door. Your mission is to make it to the roof and get picked up by a helicopter (helicopter not included).

Room 137 – Alpharetta, GA - Urban Escape Games - Lunar Station 7

With Jackson and Game Master Janar. Success. 6/24/21

We had completed all rooms at Urban Escape in 2019. They recently opened a new room called Lunar Station 7.

This was an interesting room and teamwork was the keyword for this room. There were puzzles that even with 3 people were somewhat difficult. Having just 2 would have spelled disaster. As it was, we finished with about 1 or 2 minutes to spare.

The room had some good puzzles, mainly linear. As usual, getting to the end of a puzzle is always a little panicky. We were not proud and asked for a lot of clues and Janar, our game master, obliged. He really helped us out a lot.

The only thing I would have liked was that the end would have been tied in with destruction, for example, running out of air or being exposed to fatal radiation. There was an oxygen element to the game as well as a radiation element and I would have loved to have heard a voice saying – “Your oxygen reserves are down to 5 minutes!” – and then a countdown. Or “Fatal Radiation Exposure occurs in 2 minutes. Take cover – oh wait, that won’t help. Perhaps find a lead-lined box and get into it. Take oxygen with you. Oh wait, you’re short on that too! Oh well, it was nice knowing you. 1 minute left to your demise.”

We did enjoy the room and did have a lot of fun.

Room 138 – Marietta, GA – Project Escape - The Will

With Jackson and Excellent Game Master Sydney. Success. 12/5/21

One of our favorite places, Project Escape, built a new room in place of their former room Murder Express.

This is a sequel to the prior room, Murder Express, which was about figuring out who the murderer was. It takes place in the same location, which was a first class train carriage.

This had some interesting puzzles and we enjoyed it, but the end didn’t jive with the beginning.

At the beginning, we were told to find treasure before the officials came from the Louvre to take control but at the end, the only goal seemed to get the code to get out of the room. There seemed to be a bit of cohesion missing.

I think we should have had to exit with a treasure. It was still exciting and we barely made it, but our Game Master, Sydney, was extremely helpful and a lot of fun.

Room 139 – Atlanta, GA – The Escape Game at the Battery – The Depths

With Veteran Game Guide Caleb and special appearance by Cecilia. Success. 3/8/22

The Escape Game chain has always been one of our favorites.

We had done all the rooms at this location in 2019 and I was happy to find out they had opened a new room, The Depths in 2021.

Though it’s a fairly small set of rooms, it was a lot of fun with excellent tech that worked flawlessly.

Our Game Guide Caleb said we took 4 clues, but I think we may have taken 5 (we didn’t understand what to make of one clue and asked for clarification).

This was a very fun room with a good deal of suspense and some cheesy videos.

Room 140 – Urban Escape Marietta – Ancestral Quest

With Jackson and Game Master Dede – Success – 4/8/2022

This is a new location and a very new room. The room looked great. The puzzles still had some newness in them and didn’t work 100% yet, but the game master helped us out. It wasn’t a bad story line and the puzzles contributed to the story.

Without the game master, we would probably not have solved this. We finished with 7 minutes to go.

We told our Game Master, Dede, that there was a problem that there was no arcane book of magic to find. She thought it was weird because others had mentioned it too.

We told her perhaps it was expected because it was mentioned in the video. So it felt rather unfulfilling that we didn’t find a book.

In fact, funny at the time, right after we finished the room, Rose closed the escape door back up and said, let’s keep looking for the book.
