Why Southampton?
The reason I wanted to go to Southampton was that it was the last port that the Titanic sailed from. The ship was built and outfitted in Belfast and was sent to Southampton to get the first passengers (from London) and crew. 70% of the crew were from Southampton causing it to be a great tragedy when the ship sank.
I wanted to see the dock as well as the SeaCity Museum, the tribute to the musicians, and also do an Escape the Titanic Escape Room.
We took the morning train from Waterloo Station (London has several train stations) to Southampton. Southwest Rail has a sense of humor:
The Titanic Musicians' Memorial
One of the things I had researched was the Titanic Musicians' Memorial while looking for Titanic things to do in Southampton. It mainly spoke to me because of the movie when the musicians are playing at the end. We walked here to look at it:
Titanic Engineers' Memorial
I had also found out about the Titanic Engineers' Memorial in a park close to the SeaCity Museum. It was created and dedicated in April 1914:
Afternoon Evening Activities
We went and did 2 Escape Rooms at Houdini's Escape Rooms (second room was Escape from Alcatraz) then went to The Stage Door and watched a raunchy play called Jack and The Beanstalk. We probably understood 75% of the humour (British!)
Thinking we had plenty of time, we stopped and got Subway (when Rose saw it, she yelled SUBBY!) and that was so cute, we just had to have it. Unfortunately, though we were in plenty of time for the scheduled train, British Rail decided to go on strike that evening and there was just missed the last train to London. We didn't have a choice of staying in Southampton for the evening because we had to leave our London lodgings early in the morning to catch our noon flight to Budapest. We took an Uber and it really wasn't that bad, just about $150 (yet an unnecessary expense.)
While walking through the night time and safe streets of Southampton, we saw something strange (to our eyes):
