As I was leaving Almeria, I kept glimpsing the Mediterranean on my right and not all that far from Almeria, decided to jump off the highway and drive towards it.
There are a series of videos I took while there. Sorry about the wind noises - you can't hear my brilliant monologue too well.
At first, I was worried because there was no one else around, but then I saw a couple of bicyclists and then a security patrol (cops)
I didn't bother touching the water since I had done so 40 years ago and well, it's just salty water.
I next pulled off the highway because I kind of recognized the landscape from when I used to watch Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns (I call them Italian Westerns in the video.) This is a town called Horaria, so small, it's not even on the map. It was the tiniest town way up on the hill and the only living thing I saw was a dog (and even that was debatable.
My final excursion off the beaten path was because I wanted a cold drink. I pulled off the highway and headed towards the Mediterranean. Instead of getting back on the highway, I decided to head up into the mountains to get a nice overlook on the Mediterranean.
I was absolutely blown away by this and at the end, I was so moved, tears came to my eyes. The videos do not do it justice!
